How it works
Print a sheet, or take a photo
Fill in a printed sheet of boxes, or photograph something you have already written: a letter, a notebook page.
Letters traced on your device
The sheet or photo is read in your browser, and every letter becomes an outline. Nothing is uploaded.
Fix curves, spacing and alternates
Smooth a curve, even out the spacing, and add more versions of any letter in your own hand.
Install it, even on iPhone
An .otf file for Mac and Windows, and an install profile that puts the font on an iPhone or iPad.

What makes it feel real
Alternates that rotate
When a letter repeats, it comes out in the next version you wrote, so “oo” and “ll” never look stamped.
Joined-letter ligatures
Write pairs like th, or אל and של, once as a single joined shape, and the font uses them by itself.
Symbols of your own
Type <3 and get a heart you drew yourself. Smiles and arrows too.
Hebrew with nikud
Vowel points that sit where they belong, above and below the letters, and final forms of their own.

These are set in Fonterie Demo, a sample font built with the studio’s own tools, with the same rotating alternates, joined letters and nikud. Real handwriting takes its place soon.
Privacy
Private by design
Fonterie does its work on your device. The sheets, photos and drawings you give it are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
No account needed. Fonterie works in full without one. Everything except syncing between devices behaves identically.
Nothing leaves it unless you ask. If you sign in and turn on cloud save, your email address and your projects are stored in your account, so they can follow you to other devices. You can delete them whenever you like.
No analytics, no ads, no tracking. We do not sell or share your data.

Questions
Questions, answered
How long does it take?
Most of it is the writing itself. Reading the sheet and building the font take seconds, and after that you can polish for as long as you like.
Does cursive work?
Print-style and lightly joined writing work best. A letter has to stand on its own to be found, so fully joined cursive comes back as one shape per word. You can always draw or fix a letter by hand in the editor.
What file do I get?
An OpenType font (.otf) that installs like any other, and for iPhone and iPad an install profile that adds it to the system.
Which devices?
The studio runs in any current browser, on a computer, tablet or phone. The font installs on Mac and Windows, and on iPhone and iPad through the profile. Android phones do not take install profiles.
Do you keep my handwriting?
No. Your sheets and photos are read on your device and never uploaded. Your fonts are saved in your browser, and reach an account only if you sign in and switch cloud save on.
